Portugal is the closest European country to Canada. It is approximately 600 km north-to-south and 300 km across.

The Algarve is on the southern coast.  The scenery is spectacular with wide sandy beaches beneath golden cliffs.  In summer, the beaches, bars and discos of the Algarve are packed. In winter, the Algarve is an ideal destination for mature travellers escaping from colder climates.

The area in and around Lisbon has an abundance of opportunities to explore cultural and historical interests.

The roads in north Portugal are often steep, narrow and winding but the scenery is amazing and the area is untouched by mass tourism.  Growing grapes and producing wine is the main concern.

The islands of the Azores are preserved cultural gems, ideal for back-packers and nature lovers.

The island of Madeira is 310 miles off the African coast, (1and a half hour flight from Lisbon).  Madeira' s climate is very mild; the terrain is mountainous and lush with tropical and sub-tropical vegetation. Madeira is a beautiful island catering to an upscale market.
